Roderick Houston was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 2012. He represents the 89th District, in northeast Wichita.

Rep. Houston is a native of Wichita and an alumnus of Cowley County Community College, Wichita State University and Kansas Southwest Bible College. He has been married to his wife, Patricia, for over 30 years. They have three adult sons and 6 grandchildren.

Rep. Houston serves as the pastor of Mt. Olive Tabernacle of Praise Church of God in Christ and is a 17+ year former employee of the Wichita Public Schools. He is involved in his community and has served on the executive boards of: The Wichita Jazz Festival, Central Kansas Prison Ministries, Sedgwick County Offender Re-Entry Program and the Wichita Black Arts Festival. He is also an executive board member of the Greater Wichita Ministerial League and serves as one of the organizers of the annual city-wide Martin Luther King Day celebration.

As a legislator, Rep. Houston is the ranking Democrat on the House Insurance Committee and also serves on the House Education Committee and Vision 2020 Committee.
