Ann Mah, District 53

Biography

Rep. Ann Mah has served in the Kansas House of Representatives since 2005.  She represents the 53rd House District, which includes portions of eastern Shawnee and western Douglas counties. 

Ann and her husband, Larry, reside in Topeka and have one grown son, Cary.  She obtained both an undergraduate degree and a Masters degree in education from Emporia State University and worked as a classroom science teacher for five years.  After working as a public educator, Ann joined Southwestern Bell to serve as Area Manager for 22 years.  She retired in 2000 to run her own training business.

Ann is actively involved in her local community.  She participates in numerous organizations and holds leadership positions on multiple boards.  Presently, Ann is active on the United Way of Greater Topeka Board of Directors, the American Business Women's Association, and the North Central Association State Committee.  Ann and Larry attend Faith Lutheran Church, where Ann volunteers as an adult education leader.  She is also on the boards of the Lutheran Fine Arts Council of Toepka and the Shawnee Heights Public Schools Foundation.

Ann was recognized as the 1997 national Woman of the Year by the 50,000 member American Business Women's Association. She served as the Association's national president in 2002. In that capacity, Ann traveled throughout the country speaking on business and education issues. In 2000, Ann was also recognized as a YWCA Woman of Excellence. 

As a state legislator, Ann serves as the Ranking Democratic Member on the House Committee on Elections and the Local Government Committee.  She is also a member on the House Committees on Health and Human Services, and Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security.  Ann also serves on the Legislative Post Audit Committee.
