Doug Gatewood, District 1

Biography

Rep. Doug Gatewood was first elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1998.  He represents the 1st  House District, which includes all of Cherokee County.

Doug has been active in the Columbus community for several years, and served both on the city council and as mayor.  He has over 30 years of experience as a small business owner in addition to 15 years of public service experience.  He has also been active in the local Chamber of Commerce and the Lyons Club.

In addition to his work as a state legislator, Governor Kathleen Sebelius appointed Doug to serve on Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation.  On this committee, Doug works with government officials, business leaders and representatives of higher education to further encourage technology based economic development in the state.

Rep. Gatewood serves as the Ranking Democratic Member on the House Transporation and Public Safety Committee. He is also a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
