A lifelong Kansan, Julie was born and raised in Pittsburg and attended Pittsburg Public Schools. She attended Pittsburg State University and the University of Kansas. Julie and her husband Henry have been married for over 20 years and have three children.

During her time in the Kansas House, Julie served as the ranking minority member of the House Taxation Committee, fighting for common sense solutions to get Kansas on the road to economic recovery.  In addition, she actively worked on the House Transportation committee to develop Kansas’ comprehensive transportation plan. This program will create 175,000 new jobs over the next decade and was the largest jobs package to ever be signed into law in Kansas. In December 2012, she was elected House Minority Whip.
