TOPEKA- Kansas House Minority Leader Dennis McKinney, Greensburg, announced the appointment today of Rep. Joshua Svaty, Ellsworth, and Rep. Terry McLachlan, Wichita, to the Joint Committee on Energy and Environmental Policy.

“Reps. Svaty and McLachlan have been strong leaders on energy issues in the House of Representatives,” said McKinney.“With their backgrounds in agriculture and aerospace technology, both representatives will offer unique insight to the committee as we create a comprehensive energy policy for Kansas.”

The bipartisan, 11-member Joint Committee on Energy and Environmental Policy was established as part of Senate Bill 586. The committee is authorized to introduce legislation regarding energy and environmental policy and will review other issues pertaining to Kansas natural resources as the state develops a long-term, statewide energy plan.

Svaty represents the 108th House District, and currently serves on the House Committee on Energy and the Environment, in addition to his role as the ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee.Svaty has been actively engaged in energy legislation throughout his tenure in the Kansas House of Representatives and last year testified before Congress regarding the need for consistent federal standards regulating carbon dioxide emissions.

McLachlan represents the 96th House District. First elected in 2006, McLachlan currently serves on the House Committee on Energy and Environment, the House Committee on Transportation and the House Committee on Government Efficiency and Technology.
