Democratic Leader Responds to Revised Consensus Revenue Estimates
Burrough’s criticizes governor’s tax plan for endangering state’s fiscal future
Topeka, KS: The following are statements from House Democratic Leader Tom Burroughs regarding the revised consensus revenue estimates released today.
In response to the revised estimate for of SGF receipts for FY 2015, in which the estimate for total taxes was decreased by $87.5 million:
- “Given the trends in recent months, I’m disappointed but not surprised the consensus revenue group was forced to readjust the numbers down once again. With the national economy continuing to grow, the decline in State General Fund receipts is a direct reflection of the failed policies of the Brownback Administration. It’s time Gov. Brownback and his conservative allies stop looking for one-time, short-term solutions and address this self-created crisis in a comprehensive manner.”
In response to the revised estimate for of SGF receipts for FY 2016 and FY 2017, in which the estimate for total taxes was decreased by $188 million:
- “The revised consensus revenue estimates continue to reflect what Democrats have stated all along: The Brownback tax plan is a failure and is endangering the future of the State of Kansas. We cannot afford to stay the course any longer. We must commit to generating a dependable revenue stream that is able to provide the resources necessary to reinvest in Kansas communities and grow a successful economy over the long-term. Kansans deserve nothing less.”
