“Just four weeks ago, SRS Secretary Siedlecki invited me and other Douglas County legislators to tour the Lawrence SRS office and never uttered one word about the possibility that it would be closed. Today I was informed that not only will the Lawrence office be closing, but so will nine other SRS offices across the state. These offices and the services they provide are vital to thousands of Kansans. I am becoming increasingly convinced that the vulnerable Kansans who rely upon some assistance from the State during tough economic times are not a top priority for the Brownback administration.  Additionally, announcing the closure of these offices on the Friday before a holiday weekend is yet another cowardly move by this administration.”
