“Today, House Republican Leadership led us in a game of political hot potato, not a genuine dialogue about tax policy.  The majority voted to double the state deficit with nearly $400 million more in tax breaks for wealthy citizens and corporations while average Kansas families wait for basic state services.  This debate was clearly not about filling the budget gap.

It has never been the tradition of this Legislature to consider revenue proposals before a budget bill is presented, or before April estimates confirm what revenues will be needed.  It is both irresponsible and unfair to ask taxpayers to blindly throw extra money into a pot.

Where is the House budget bill?  What has Chairman Yoder been doing in the House Appropriations Committee for the last 10 weeks?  It is time for House Republicans to get serious and quit playing politics with the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.  Our state deserves more honest leadership from the House of Representatives.”
