TOPEKA - House Minority Leader Paul Davis, Lawrence, announced today that Rep. Valdenia Winn, Kansas City, has been appointed to serve on the Kansas Children’s Cabinet.
The Legislature established the Kansas Children's Cabinet in 1999 to oversee the expenditures from the Master Tobacco Settlement. Ninety-five percent of the state's portion of the Master Tobacco Settlement was dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children and youth in the state. A focus of the Cabinet is on Early Childhood and Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems Plan. The Cabinet also oversees grants for: Smart Start Kansas, Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP), and the Early Childhood Block Grant.
“As an educator, Rep. Winn has been working on behalf of young people throughout her entire career,” said Davis. “I’m confident that she will continue to promote strong public policy that fulfills the needs of our children.”
Winn has been a member of the Kansas House of Representatives since 2001. She represents the 34th House District, which includes portions of Wyandotte County.
